Abstract

A large amount of human genome data have been collected and the accumulation of the data is rapidly increasing. Therefore the efficient techniques for managing them and for building and testing biological hypotheses using them are expected. We have developed an object-oriented database system with logical query interface for genomic computation. The database is constructed on a commercially available object-oriented database system Versant and contains GenBank entries as complex objects. To handle complex objects in logical queries extended form of conventional logical languages are used in the logical query interface. This system can be used for simple keyword searches, homology searches for nucleotide sequences, and their combinations.
