Evolutionary Origin for the Multiplicity of Escherichia coli Response-Regulator Proteins

Abstract

Domain organization of E. coli response-regulator proteins is examined. Sequence comparisons suggest that the multiplicity found in E. coli response-regulator proteins was generated in evolution by sequence-divergence after gene duplication rather than domain-shuffling.
