Title |
Phylogenetic Reconstruction from Metabolic Pathway Alignment |
Abstract |
The increasing amount of available information on metabolic pathways
stored in repositories like KEGG makes it of great relevance to
understand the similarities and differences among such pathways. This
similarities can then be used to reconstruct a phylogenetic tree
representing the evolutionary history of a set of organisms. By using
this approach we can avoid some common problems found in phylogenetic
reconstruction from sequence data (horizontal gene transfer, for
instance). In this talk, I will present a detailed description of our
method, as well as a web service based on it, and discuss possible
applications of biological interest.
