Kanehisa Laboratories
The large-scale molecular datasets generated by genome sequencing and other high-throughput experimental technologies are the basis for understanding life as a molecular system and for developing practical applications in medical, pharmaceutical, and environmental sciences. The key to linking such large-scale datasets to practical values lies in bioinformatics technologies, not only in terms of computational methods, but also in terms of knowledge bases.
To meet such bioinformatics needs, we have been developing KEGG, a database resource with associated software tools, as part of the research projects of the Kanehisa Laboratories in the Bioinformatics Center of Kyoto University and the Human Genome Center of the University of Tokyo.
